Description:

The superior intercostal veins differ on the right and left. The right superior intercostal vein drains the posterior intercostal veins from the upper three or four intercostal spaces and joins the azygos vein. The left superior intercostal vein drains the upper two posterior intercostal veins and joins the posterior aspect of the left brachiocephalic vein.
