Description:

The posterior tibial artery is a terminal branch of the popliteal artery. It arises posterior to the proximal tibia and descends deep to the soleus and superficial to the flexor digitorum longus and tibialis posterior muscles. It gives rise to the fibular artery and terminates after arching anteriorly around the medial malleolus and onto the plantar surface of the foot where it bifurcates into the lateral and medial plantar arteries.
