Description:

The anterior intercostal arteries are segmental branches of the thoracic aorta that carry blood into each of the intercostal spaces. These arteries run with the posterior intercostal veins and the intercostal nerves. They pass anteriorly between the innermost and internal intercostal muscles to form collateral circuits with the anterior intercostal arteries.
