Description:

The internal thoracic artery is a descending branch of the subclavian artery that courses in the anterior thoracic wall superficial to the transversus thoracis muscles just lateral to the sternum. It gives rise to the anterior intercostal arteries, musculophrenic arteries, and superior epigastric arteries. It is the major arterial pathway into the anterior wall of the thorax and abdomen.
