Description:

The brain is the intracranial organ of the central nervous system. It contains about ninety five percent of the neural tissue in the body and comprises a large part of the cranium. The average weight of an adult male brain is 49.5 ounces and that of the female brain is 44 ounces. The brain is composed of six principal regions: the cerebrum, the diencephalon, the cerebellum, the mesencephalon or midbrain, the pons, and the medulla oblongata.
