Urinary system

Description:

A great deal of dissection was required to arrive at this image and expose the organs of the urinary system. Almost the entire contents of the abdominal cavity were removed to reveal the urinary organs. The kidneys sit deep in the abdominal cavity surrounded by a large mass of perirenal fat. All the digestive organs and this thick perirenal fat pad have been removed to arrive at the image seen here. Each of the urinary organs is evident in this image. Notice the kidneys situated against the posterior abdominal wall, the ureters descending from the kidneys along the lateral aspect of the lumbar vertebrae, the bladder projecting upward from the pelvic cavity (it has been artificially filled with water to reveal its filled size), and the urethra exiting the bladder in the sectioned base of the penis.
