Integument - Skin layer

Description:

The embalmed cadaver observed here reveals the first body system - the integument. The integument, comprised of the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis, covers the body and has a variety of functions. The only layer of the integumentary system visible initially in the cadaver is the outer epithelial layer called the epidermis. The epidermal layer and its underlying connective tissue layer, the dermis, comprise the skin, or cutis.
