Histology - Fibrocartilage

Description:

This is a section of fibrocartilage from the quadriceps tendon near its junction with the patella. This strong cartilage is much more thickly embedded with collagen than is hyaline cartilage. Fibrocartilage is a support and binding tissue with strong shock-absorbing capabilities. It is also found in the meniscal cartilages of the knee, sternoclavicular, and temporomandibular joints. The intervertebral discs are made primarily of fibrocartilage.
