Histology - Adipose connective tissue

Description:

This is a section of adipose connective tissue from the epicardium of the heart. This tissue, specialized for energy storage, can be found most everywhere in the body, especially if an individual becomes excessively obese. Note the characteristic signet ring appearance of the adipocytes. The large fat vacuole within the cytoplasm of the cell displaces the nucleus and other organelles to the periphery of the cell.
