Description:
The superior cervical ganglion forms as the fusion of the upper four cervical sympathetic trunk ganglia. Gray communicating rami connect the ganglion to the first four cervical ventral rami. The ganglion contains the cell bodies of sympathetic postganglionic neurons. In addition to the gray rami, other branches from the ganglion are distributed along blood vessels of the head and neck, and also to the cardiac plexus.
