Description:

The sympathetic trunk is a long nerve pathway that extends from the base of the skull to the coccyx on the lateral side of the vertebral bodies bilaterally. It distributes sympathetic neurons from their origin in the lateral gray matter of the spinal cord levels T1 to L2 to smooth muscle tissue at all levels of the body. The neuron pathways that branch from this nerve are primarily associated with nervous control of blood vessel smooth muscle.
