Description:

This nerve arises from the posterior branches of the second and third ventral rami of the lumbar spinal nerves within the psoas major muscle. It emerges from the lateral border of the psoas and crosses the iliacus muscle as it descends toward the anterior superior iliac spine. Here it passes through the inguinal ligament and is distributed into the skin over the lateral aspect of the thigh.
