Description:

Origin:
First lumbrical arises from the big toe side of the flexor digitorum longus tendon; the other three lumbricals each arise from the adjacent sides of the flexor digitorum longus tendons

Insertion:
Pass anterior to the metatarsal phalangeal joint and wrap dorsally to join the extensor expansion of digits 2, 3, 4, and 5

Actions:
Flexes metatarso-phalangeal joint and extends interphalangeal joints

Nerve supply:
Medial plantar nerve supplies the 1st lumbrical and the lateral plantar nerve supplies the other lumbricals

Blood supply:
Branches of the posterior tibial artery
