Description:

These muscles are divided into three groups - the rotatores lumborum, rotatores thoracis, and rotatores cervicis

Origin of the rotatores lumborum:
Mamillary process of lumbar vertebra

Insertion of the rotatores lumborum:
Inferior margin on the lateral aspect of the lamina of the superjacent lumbar vertebra

Origin of the rotatores thoracis:
Posterior surface of the superior margin of the transverse process of the thoracic vertebrae

Insertion of the rotatores thoracis:
Inferior margin of the lateral aspect of the laminae of the thoracic vertebrae

Origin of the rotatores cervicis:
Posterior surface of articular processes of cervical vertebrae

Insertion of the rotatores cervicis:
Posterior surface of the lamina of superjacent cervical vertebrae

Actions:
Stabilize the vertebral column

Nerve supply:
Dorsal rami of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spinal nerves

Blood supply:
Branches of the external carotid, subclavian, posterior intercostal, and lumbar arteries
