Description:
The parietal peritoneum is the part of the serous peritoneal coelom that lines the abdominal cavity. This mesothelial membrane contacts the muscular body wall of the abdominal cavity anteriorly, laterally, and superiorly. In the posterior abdomen it covers the retroperitoneal organs - the kidneys in their perirenal fat, ascending and descending colon, duodenum, and pancreas. Inferiorly it covers the top aspect of the pelvic viscera as it crosses the pelvic inlet.
