Description:

The small intestine is the longest part of the gastrointestinal tract and is comprised of three parts. It begins at the terminus of the stomach as the first part called the duodenum. The duodenum is C-shaped and approximately 12 inches in length. The second part is the jejunum and the third part is the ileum. These two parts comprise most of the length of this long tube, which is approximately 3 meters, or 10 feet, long in a living person.
