Description:

This is a looping portion of the cervical sympathetic trunk that connects the middle cervical ganglion to the inferior cervical ganglion. The sympathetic trunk between the middle and inferior cervical ganglia splits into multiple branches. The anterior branch descends and loops around the subclavian artery medial to the origin of the internal thoracic artery to form the ansa subclavia.
