Description:

The posterior fontanelle is the membranous site in the newborn skull formed at the junction of the two parietal bones and the occipital bone. This connective tissue zone between adjacent bones typically closes around the second postnatal month. It becomes the point referred to as the lambda - the junction of the sagittal and lambdoid sutures.
