Description:

The anterior fontanelle is one of the "soft spots" in a newborn's skull. This is the diamond-shaped region on the superior surface of the skull where the paired frontal and parietal bones have not yet come together. It is typically present (although decreasing in size with age) until approximately the 18th month.
