Description:
The epicranial aponeurosis is the broad tendinous sheet that extends from the frontalis muscle (frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis) over the forehead to the occipitalis muscle (occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis) over the occipital bone. Alternate contraction of the muscles causes the scalp to move from front to back over the top of the skull. The temporoparietalis muscle also blends into the lateral aspect of the epicranial aponeurosis.
