Description:
This is a strong, slender cord that connects the head of the fibula to the lateral epicondyle of the femur and is separated from the lateral surface of the fibrous joint capsule by loose fat pad. It attaches to the anterior aspect of the fibular head, where it blends with fibers from the biceps femoris muscle. From here it ascends vertically to attach to the lateral epicondyle of the femur anterior to the sulcus for the popliteus muscle.
Stabilizes the lateral side of the knee joint, where it prevents medial flexion of the joint.
