Description:

The palatine bone is a delicate, intricate bone resembling the shape of the letter L. It is wedged deeply into the posterior facial region where it contributes to the roof of the mouth, floor of the orbit, floor and lateral walls of the nasal cavity, and to the pterygopalatine fossa. It has a strong horizontal plate that contributes to the posterior third of the hard palate and a delicate vertical lamina, which projects superiorly into the floor of the orbit.
