Description:

These processes project superiorly from the junction of the first sacral segment's transverse process and pedicle. Like the similar processes in the lumbar vertebrae above, their articular surfaces are directed posteromedially. They form synovial articulations with the inferior articular processes of the fifth lumbar vertebra.
