Description:
These small, delicate bones form scroll-like projections from the lateral wall of the nasal cavity. The scroll-like projection arches inferiorly and laterally from the lateral nasal wall. They subdivide the nasal cavity into an inferior meatus below and middle meatus above. The medial surface of the bone is convex and furrowed by many longitudinal grooves that transport vessels under the thick nasal mucosa that covers their surface. Their lateral surfaces are concave and form most of the superior and medial boundary of the inferior nasal meatus. The inferior border of the bone has a rough, spongy appearance, which has a thick mucosal covering.
